New total, new videos and new photos

Posted on: 28 March 2010 at 2001 - Comment

Just when we thought the buzz around Bristol Twestival couldn’t get more exciting, it does! The money raised from the event has been counted over the weekend giving us a new total. We have now raised…

£5,617!!!

That figure is the third highest amount of money raised by a UK city and the 11th most in the world. An awesome achievement. Thankyou for being part of it.

We’ve also got some new photos and videos to help us relive Thursday. See below for footage of Phantom Limb and The Reacharounds filmed by lead organiser Dan Martin and images of both bands captured by Matt Gibson.

Bristol Twestival: Fundraising total revealed

Posted on: 26 March 2010 at 1554 - Comment

Well what can I say; what a truly amazing party last night. Bristol, you surpassed all our expectations so thankyou, thankyou, thankyou!

So how much did we raise? Well, with donations still to come, we made:

£4,496!!!

It smashes our £3,000 target and is well over the £1,510 we raised last year.

Everyone’s a little bit tired and emotional today - our lead organiser Dan got to bed at 3am and was up again at 6.45am! - so this will be a sort post but be rest assured there’s lots more to come.

In the meantime, check out these photos and a video filmed by Doc from Glow Gadgets of our opening band The Reacharounds in action.

Which Twestival is using a venue owned by a local celebrity? Bristol!

The Tunnels, a fabulous space underneath Bristol Temple Meads station, has been given to us for free by its owner the former England rugby union international Gareth Chilcott. We met Gareth this afternoon and he took us on a tour of The Tunnels which you can see in the video below:

Phantom Limb to headline Bristol Twestival

Posted on: 10 March 2010 at 1305 - Comment

We are thrilled to announce today that the headlining act for the Bristol Twestival is local band Phantom Limb.

Destined to be huge, Phantom Limb formed in 2004 and have secured their place on the local scene as a genre-splitting, euphonic delight. They recently took their sounds beyond Bristol in a slot on last year’s World Stage at Glastonbury Festival, as well as several dates in Europe and America.

Lead singer Yolanda Quartey and guitarist Stew Jackson co-wrote Will Young’s last single and were special guests on the Pop Idol winner’s last tour. They are also about to head out to Los Angeles to record their second album which will be produced by legendary guitarist and former member of the Black Crows Marc Ford.

With a steadily growing media presence and having featured in BBC Radio London’s Albums of the Year review on New Year’s Day this year, we just might have yet another local band to add to that iconic South West music Hall of Fame which houses such greats as Massive Attack, who have worked with members of Phantom Limb.

Yolanda, Stew and guitarist Dan Moore from Phantom Limb will join other local heroes The Reacharounds to make Bristol Twestival truly the place to be for a fantastic night of live music, local DJs, a prize-fuelled raffle and the chance to meet, tweet and give all for a fantastic cause.

If you want to be part of what is set to be a fantastic night buy a ticket for only a fiver here.
